The BeforeYouBurn text program
BeforeYouBurn text messages are sent by Public Fire Safety, LLC. By giving us your mobile number and agreeing to receive texts, you agree to these terms.
Messages you may receive
You receive only the messages that apply to what you have done or asked for:
- Sign-in codes when you sign in or add a phone number to your account.
- Messages about your burns, such as a reminder on the day, or a "do not burn" notice if burning closes on a day you registered.
- Agency notices from the fire agencies covering a burn you registered, and alerts for the areas you subscribe to.
- Replies to your commands. You can text the BeforeYouBurn number to check the status, check in, say you are not burning, or say your burn is out. We check the live status and reply.
Text messages are a courtesy. They can be late or fail to arrive, so they are not the safety mechanism. Always check the status before you burn. How text messages work.
How often
Message frequency varies. It depends on how many burns you register, the areas you subscribe to, and how often agencies change the status. On a typical day with a registered burn, you may receive a few messages. With no burns and no subscriptions, you receive only the sign-in codes you ask for.
Cost
BeforeYouBurn texts are free from us. Message and data rates may apply under your mobile plan. Check with your carrier.
How to stop
Reply STOP to any message from the BeforeYouBurn number to stop receiving texts from it. We send one confirmation and nothing more. To start again, reply START.

Carriers
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
No purchase required
Agreeing to receive texts is not a condition of any purchase. BeforeYouBurn is free for residents.
SMS privacy
Mobile phone numbers and text-message opt-in data and consent are never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. The privacy policy explains how we handle your information.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version.
