Register a burn
Last updated:
Registering tells your fire agency where and when you plan to burn, so it knows the smoke is yours and how to reach you. A registration is not a permit: whether you may burn is always the live status at the moment you light.
Before you start
- The status for your address must be Burning is allowed for the day you choose.
- You need a mobile phone number or an email address. We send a one-time code; there is no password.
Steps
- Check the status for your address.
- Choose Register a burn. Browsing never needs an account; we ask you to sign in only now.
- Enter your phone number or email address, then the 6-digit code we send you.
- Choose the day. Some agencies let you register a later day, or several days, up to a limit they set.
- Answer the agencies' questions and accept their terms.
- Check your answers and send.
You get a registration number and a confirmation. Keep it: it is also on your account page.
Questions and terms
Each agency that covers your address can ask questions or set terms, such as "I will keep a water source nearby". When several agencies ask for the same thing, we ask you once and your answer counts for all of them. We record exactly which terms you accepted and what you answered.
Registering for a later day
You can register a future day when the rules known today would allow burning on that day. Things can change before then. On the day, check the status again and check in before you light.
Who sees your registration
The agencies that cover your burn's location, and their dispatch systems if they have chosen to receive them, see your name, contact details and location so they can respond. The public and other residents never see your identity or exact location. See the privacy policy.
